INTRODUCING A
NON-INVASIVE DIAGNOSTIC

Our innovative, non-invasive test will assess the genetic indicators underlying egg quality and female infertility.

This will allow reproductive specialists to diagnose genetic cases of infertility at the beginning of the treatment process.

By using genetic biomarkers to assess potential problems, physicians can develop optimal treatment paths, plan for egg preservation and pre-screen prospective egg donors.

A STREAMLINED USE CASE

As part of initial diagnostic work-up for infertile couple, physician collects blood for genetic testing. Physician and patient provide Celmatix with additional phenotypic data (e.g. age, peak hormone levels, environmental exposure history) to create personalized prognostic report.

Celmatix utilizes information to identify high risk of aneuploidy and recurrent miscarriage based on genetic and phenotypic indicators.

Physician counsels patient that moving directly to IVF with PGD/PGS is highest probability route to healthy pregnancy. Patient becomes pregnant in first cycle. By reducing patient’s emotional stress, physician increases likelihood of referrals, higher volumes and retentions.

This diagnostic product is in development and not yet available to the public. It may yield results that narrow treatment alternatives to a greater or lesser degree. The test itself will neither improve nor diminishes patients’ chances of becoming pregnant.

Celmatix mines a large set of de-identified electronic medical records from IVF and other fertility treatment cycles.

By applying advanced data analytics and machine learning methods, we provide clinical partners with actionable analysis of the markers of success and failure in their patient populations.

Our data reports clarify questions that are critical to improving success rates—questions that affect outcomes across variables, including AMH levels, age and embryo quality. They also show clinics how their methods compare to others and promote “best practices” for infertility treatment.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO STREAMLINE TREATMENT

Celmatix’s non-invasive method for assessing the genetic and phenotypic indicators underlying egg quality and female infertility has significant potential both in the recapture and current treatment markets. Viable eggs are needed to succeed, and millions of women would benefit from knowing more about their potential to produce quality eggs.

Globally, 56% of assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures are performed in Europe. In addition to the large European market, roughly 60 million couples in China and India are currently seeking infertility treatment.

Our data and diagnostic offerings will streamline infertility diagnosis and treatment. Both have significant potential in the recapture market and among women who have already chosen to seek treatment.

Approximately 7.3 million American women are infertile. About 40% pursue treatment, (142,000 IVF procedures in 2007), while the other 60% avoid what they fear will be an expensive and emotionally taxing process.

Laura Towart Bandak, MSc

Ms. Bandak holds an MSc degree in Neuroscience from Cornell University (Weill Medical College/Sloan Kettering Institute, NYC). She performed her thesis work on the molecular pharmacology of the mu opioid receptor and is published in the field of gonadal hormones. In addition, Ms. Bandak has had extensive exposure to the biotechnology sector as an independent consultant. Ms. Bandak graduated cum laude from The George Washington University, Washington DC, with a BA Honors in English and a BS in Biology.

Piraye Yurttas Beim, PhD

Dr. Beim is one of a handful of experts in the genetics of female fertility. Her postdoctoral work (Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge, England) is in mammalian pre-implantation embryology and her doctoral work (Cornell University, Weill Medical College/Sloan Kettering Institute, NYC) focused on the molecular and genetic underpinnings of mammalian infertility. Dr. Beim holds a BA in Plan II Honors, an elite multidisciplinary honors program, and a BS in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Akber brings years of experience in computational modeling. She has worked for a number of start up companies and before the private sector, held an Assistant Professorship in Geophysics at the University of California, San Diego (Scripps Institution of Oceanography). She holds an Honors BS in Electrical Engineering from Caltech.

Pavithra Shivakumar, PhD

Dr. Shivakumar holds a PhD from Yale University in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Her thesis work focused on structural assessment of compounds and pharmacogenomic profiling in cancer. She has a BS with highest honors in Computer science and honors in Biology from Rutgers University.

Mr. Winick is a partner of Topspin Partners, a lead investors in Celmatix. He came to Topspin from Honeywell, Intl., where he most recently served as CIO of its $2 billion Security Group. Mr. Winick received a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Electrical Engineering, also from University of Pennsylvania.

Upasana Bhattacharjee, MSc

Bioinformatics Analyst

Ms. Bhattacharjee, holds an MS degree in Bioinformatics from Polytechnic University of NYU. As part of her masters training, she interned at Celmatix in a guided study program. She earned a BS degree in Biotechnology from North Dakota State University where her undergraduate research and thesis focused on the synthesis of peptides in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department.

Hrishikesh Vikas Karvir, PhD

Machine Learning Scientist

Prior to joining Celmatix, Dr. Karvir worked as a Machine Learning Scientist at Aureon Biosciences, a diagnostics company focused on developing novel prognostic models and imaging-based biomarkers for cancer. Dr. Karvir holds a PhD in Engineering and an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering from Wright State University. His doctoral research focused on data mining and predictive analytics for imaging applications.

Michael Elashoff, PhD

Vice President of Biostatistics

Dr. Elashoff was formerly the Senior Director of Biostatistics at CardioDx, where he developed the Corus CAD test, the first blood based molecular diagnostic for coronary disease. Previously, he was director of biostatistics at Gene Logic, which at that time had the largest genomic database in the world, and was a reviewer and team leader at the FDA\’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. He received a PhD in Biostatistics from Harvard School of Public Health and a BA in Statistics from the University of California at Berkeley.
